Sample Extra Credit Work | Sample Table of Contents

Required by Everyone:                                                                            1
 
1. 3-hole binder required. Your binder needs to be properly labeled. Your name and the title of the course should be clearly visibile.
2. Table of Contents required. The table of contents will need to be updated after each chapter. A sample is included in this document which shows what needs to be included in the Table of Contents.
3. All pages are to be numbered in the upper outside corner.
4. Notes taken during class presentation
a. Section Division and Titles.
b. Important Terms Listed (highlighted) and defined.
c. Example Problems done, with some notes of explanation.
d. There should be some notes on every section.
e. Notes should be taken in class, not copied from the Web Page. The Web Page can be an excellent source of material to supplement your notes, or to use when you've been absent.
 
5. Assignments should be done in the same Mathematics Notebook.
a. Section Division and Titles.
b. Work is shown (Not Just Answers)
c. Evidence of corrections done on at least some of the incorrect assignment work.
 
6. Notebooks will be collected and corrected at the time of each chapter test.
a. A grade will be given after each chapter, which will make up 20% of the final grade.

1. Notes are neat and organized. (This may well require rewriting or typing notes.)
2. For each assignment, 1 sample of each type of problem must be done in a two column format. (see Sample Extra Credit Work later in this document)
3. Each section of extra credit in the notebook should be noted in the table of contents. If this is not done, no extra credit will be given.
4. In addition to the grade which will be given in the 20% Notebook Category, 1-10 points will be added to the test grade for that chapter. (Not to exceed 100% on any test)

One problem from each type of problem on each assignment is to be done in the two column format shown below. The problem that is chosen should be of medium difficulty for that section of problems. On the left side of each page the problem is worked out step by step, and checked (if possible). On the right side of each page, the corresponding steps on the left side are explained or justified..

Note: that most example problems in the Sample Problems section of this Web Site show more examples of exactly how to do extra credit work. 

Note: that you are to do 3 single examples of each problem type in each assingment. In a typical chapter, there would be say 8 sections in the chapter. For maximum extra credit, you would do 3 x 8 or 24 problems in the two-column format shown above. If your notes are neat and you did a thorough job on your two-column extra credit problems, you could get 10 points added on to your test score for that chapter! (Not to exceed 100%)
